Dental Care

Dental care plays a crucial role in your pet’s overall health. Gum and dental diseases are among the most common health issues in pets, with most developing these problems by the age of three. If left untreated, dental disease can lead to bone loss, pain, and even impact your pet’s internal organs as harmful bacteria from the mouth enter the bloodstream. The best way to manage this condition is through prevention!

Fight & Prevent Dental Disease

At Family Vet Services, we provide comprehensive dental care to keep your pet’s teeth and gums in excellent health. Our services include:

  • Ultrasonic scaling above and below the gum line
  • Polishing to reduce future tartar buildup
  • Fluoride treatments
  • Extractions and mass removals when necessary

Since two-thirds of your pet’s teeth are hidden below the gumline, removing tartar in those areas is crucial. Due to the detailed and invasive nature of dental cleanings, these procedures are performed under general anesthesia. While anesthesia always carries a slight risk, we take every step to ensure your pet is a safe candidate. This includes constant monitoring and requiring pre-operative blood work to ensure their safety throughout the procedure.

Dental Care at Home

Your pet’s dental care doesn’t stop with professional cleanings! There’s plenty you can do at home to help keep your dog or cat’s teeth healthy and reduce the need for frequent cleanings. The most effective way to prevent dental issues is by regularly brushing your pet’s teeth using pet-safe toothpaste and a toothbrush. However, we understand that brushing daily isn’t always feasible, especially if your pet is uncooperative or time is tight.
